You signed up. The first class is on the calendar, and now a small panic is setting in. You need a uniform, you have never worn one, and the shop is a website, not a store with a fitting room. Take a breath. If you want to buy bjj gi online and have it on your back by the first night, you do not need luck. You need a simple plan. This guide spreads the job over fourteen days, with one small task for each stretch. Nothing is rushed, nothing is scary, and by the end you will walk into the gym with a gi that fits and a bag that is packed.

Why Two Weeks Works So Well
Two weeks gives you room to breathe. Regular orders from our shop usually go out in about five to seven days, so you will have time for shipping, plus a few days to try the gi on and wash it. It also gives you space to ask your coach a question or two and fix a mistake if something comes up.
If your class is sooner, do not worry. You can squeeze the plan into one week. Just keep the order the same.
Days 1 and 2: Get to Know Your Own Numbers
Before you open a single shop page, grab a tape measure and a notepad.
Write Down the Basics
Note your height and your weight. These two numbers do most of the work when you read a size chart. If you know your arm length and leg length, jot those down too. They help if you are tall, short, or have a body that does not fit standard sizes.
Send Your Coach a Quick Message
Ask two things. Which colors does the gym allow? And does the gym lend gis to new students for the first class? Many gyms are happy to help, and this can take pressure off your timeline. White, blue, and black are the colors most places accept, but rules change from gym to gym.
Days 3 to 5: Window Shop With a Purpose
Now you can look. The trick is to know what you are looking for, so a pretty photo does not pull you off course.
Read the Fabric Line First.
Our men’s gis have a jacket made from a 450 GSM pearl weave. GSM stands for grams per square meter. It is a simple way to say how thick the cloth is. A bigger number means heavier cloth that tends to last longer. A smaller number runs cooler. For a beginner, a steady middle choice is easy to live with.
Zoom In on the Strong Spots
Look for notes about the collar, knees, and cuffs. These places take the most rubbing. Our gis have a stiff, thick collar and reinforced stitching, and the pants are ripstop, which stops small tears from spreading.
Check the Size Chart With Your Numbers
Our men’s sizes run from A00 to A6. Hold your height and weight up against the chart. If you land between two sizes, read the notes. Custom sizing is offered, but it takes longer to ship, so it works better for a longer plan.
A Quick Word on Pre-Shrunk Cloth
Pre-shrunk cloth is washed at the factory, so it is made to keep its size when you wash it at home. The fabric on our gis is pre-shrunk. That means the size you pick should stay close to the size you get.
Days 6 and 7: Think About the Rest of Your Bag
Your gi is the star, but it works with a few helpers. This is a good moment to think about the rest of your kit, because shipping them together is easier on your plan.
The Short List
A belt is a must, since it shows your rank. A mouthguard protects your teeth. Sandals help you walk to the bathroom without stepping on the street in your bare feet. A small towel and a water bottle round it out.
Where the Extra Pieces Live
If you want to try no-gi classes later, you will need a rash guard and grappling shorts. Our shop has a full line of brazilian jiu jitsu clothes for men, women, and kids, including belts, rash guards, shorts, and spats. You do not have to get it all now. Add pieces as you figure out what you like.

Nice to Know: Teams and Clubs
If you coach or help run a club, custom gear is available in your own colors and logos. Wholesale pricing is also offered for bigger orders.
Days 8 and 9: Place the Order
You have your numbers, your list, and your coach’s answer. It is time to commit.
Do a Final Check Before You Pay
Run through this short list.
-
Does the size match your chart numbers?
-
Is the color allowed at your gym?
-
Are the extras you want in the cart?
-
Does the shipping time fit your plan?
Our men’s gis run from $79 to $109, depending on size. Many listings come with extras like a free gi bag and belt while supplies last, so read each page for what is included. Orders of $300 or more ship free.
Save the Details
Take a screenshot of the order page and keep the confirmation email. If you ever need help, it will make things quicker.
Days 10 to 12: The Waiting Game
This is the part where most people start to fidget. Use the time well.
Track the Package
Once your order ships, you get a tracking number. Packages travel with DHL, FedEx, or USPS. Check it once a day, not once an hour.
Practice Tying a Belt
It sounds silly, but it helps. Wrap the belt around your waist twice, pull the ends even, and tie a simple square knot. Do it ten times in front of a mirror, and you will feel more at ease on day one.
Clear a Spot in Your Bag
Pick the bag you plan to carry. Make sure it has room for a gi, a towel, and a water bottle. A plastic bag for damp clothes is a smart add.
Day 13: Unbox and Wash
Your gi should be at your door by now. Do not wait until class night to open the box.
A Five-Minute Check
Check the size tag against your order. Run your hand along the collar, knees, and cuffs. Look for loose threads. Try the gi on, stretch your arms out, and drop into a deep squat. The sleeves should reach near your wrists, and the pants should end close to your ankles.
A Gentle First Wash
Wash it in cold water, under about 30°C (86°F), with a mild soap. Skip bleach and fabric softener, because both can weaken the cloth. Let it dry in open air, away from strong sun. If you must use a dryer, pick the lowest heat. A new gi feels stiff, and that is normal. It softens after a few washes and a few classes.
Day 14: Pack and Go
Lay everything out the night before. Gi, belt, towel, sandals, mouthguard, water. Check your alarm. Eat something light before class, trim your nails, and tie your hair back if you have long hair. Walk in, say hello to your coach, and let the nerves turn into excitement.
If the Plan Hits a Snag
Sometimes a package runs late, or the size is off. Here is what to do.
Reach Out Early
Our support team is available 12 hours a day, six days a week, at support@bjiujitsu.com. The sooner you write, the sooner we can help.
Know the Return Rules
Regular items can be returned under the refund policy, which lists the time limit and valid reasons, such as a damaged item or the wrong size. Custom gear cannot be returned, so double-check those orders.
Have a Backup
If the gi is not here by class night, ask your gym if you can borrow one for the first session. Most gyms are happy to help a beginner.
One Last Word Before You Start
Fourteen days sounds like a lot, but most of it is waiting. The real work takes about an hour in total. Measure yourself, ask your coach, read a few details, place the order, and take care of the gi when it shows up. Do that, and your first class will be about learning, not about your clothes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How early should a beginner order a gi?
Aim for about two weeks before your first class. Regular orders usually ship in about five to seven days, which leaves time to try the gi on and wash it.
What size gi should a beginner order?
Use the size chart with your height and weight. Our men’s sizes run from A00 to A6, and the fabric is pre-shrunk, so the size you pick should stay close to the size you get.
What if my gi arrives and does not fit?
Contact our support team right away. Regular items can be returned under the refund policy, which lists the time limit and valid reasons. Custom gear cannot be returned.
Is it okay to wear a brand new gi to my first class?
Yes, but give it a gentle wash first. Use cold water and a mild soap, and skip bleach and fabric softener. Expect it to feel stiff at first, since it softens with use.
Do I need a rash guard under my gi?
Many students wear one for comfort, though it is not always required. Ask your coach about gym rules. Our shop has rash guards for men, women, and kids.
